The Yankees had too many base runners to lose a baseball game, but they still managed to keep the score close.
Scoreboard Says:
Yankees 4, Cubs 3
W: A.J. Burnett
L: Ryan Dempster
S: Mariano Rivera
A-Rod & Cano Continue Quest to .300:
It’s mid-June and still no Yankee starter is hitting .300. Alex Rodriguez (.282) and Robinson Cano (.293) approached the mark today, as both collected two hits. As it turns out, this quest has been going on for so long that Brett Gardner (.286) and Curtis Granderson (.285) have overtaken A-Rod in the hunt.
Rivera Inches Closer to 600:
Mariano Rivera earned his 17th save of the season, giving him 576 in his career. There’s an outside shot he reaches 600 this year, but he’ll need two more than that to surpass Trevor Hoffman as the all-time saves leader.
Game Ball:
Burnett. Not a fabulous game by any means, but he did have eight K’s in 5 1/3 innings. His ERA now sits a hair above 4 at 4.05.
