OK, I wasn’t that surprised about this news, because there’s really nobody else the Yankees want hitting first against lefties, but it’s still Nick Swisher’s first time starting at leadoff for the Yankees.
The reason you don’t see Brett Gardner up top is the Yankees don’t like him against lefties all that much. They’ve only given him 34 chances against lefties this year, and he’s hitting .250/.364/.286.
And they aren’t messing with Curtis Granderson because, well, who would? He’s tied for the major-league lead in homers and is getting hot again. Fine by me.
Swish had another homer and a double last night, so it really might not be a bad idea after all.
