Another day, another reliever signed by the Red Sox.
Two days after locking up White Sox closer Bobby Jenks for two years, the Red Sox signed ex-Rays reliever Dan Wheeler.
Wheeler has been very consistent the past three years, while Jenks is coming off one of the worst years of his career. The Red Sox also added Matt Albers to their pen earlier this offseason.
The Yankees have added Pedro Feliciano, but lost Kerry Wood. I just found out Wood attended Ron Santo’s funeral, which Wood admitted was a big factor into choosing the Cubs. Wood will be greatly missed.
Here’s the rivalry bullpen comparison:
Yankees | Red Sox |
Mariano Rivera | Jonathan Papelbon |
David Robertson | Daniel Bard |
Joba Chamberlain | Bobby Jenks |
Boone Logan | Hideki Okajima |
Pedro Feliciano | Dan Wheeler |
Brian Fuentes and Rafael Soriano are the top relievers left on the market, but Brian Cashman is on record saying he won’t spend closer money for a setup man.
