Daily News: Jesus Montero ready to start for Yankees

Via the NY Daily News:

The consensus among the Yankees' high command is that Jesus Montero who turns 21 on Nov. 28 - is ready to assume the starting catcher's job, according to a source with knowledge of the team's thinking.

Woah. I wasn’t expecting this. A lot of this decision must have to do with the Yankees’ faith in Jorge Posada. Posada is 39 years old and his caught stealing percentage was the worst of his career in 2010, throwing out just 15 percent of base runners. It was also one of the worst offensive seasons of his career.

Montero has a full year of catching at the Triple-A level under his belt now, catching 105 out of 123 games in 2010. The other 18 games were all at DH. He heated up in the second half, but his overall numbers still weren’t extremely impressive for a No. 1 prospect: .289 BA/.353 OBP/.517 SLG with 21 homers and 75 RBIs. He caught 23 percent of base runners, better than Posada, but did allow 15 passed balls.

Do you think Montero is ready to start for the Yankees?

Cervelli led NYY in errors. Posada was #2. Is Montero really gonna be worse? Lets do it!

Based on what I have read, baseball "experts" outside of the Yankees' camp do not believe Montero is ready to be a starting Major leagues catcher. But, like Mr. Kantor has already proclaimed, how much worse can he be than either Posada or Cervelli catching?
Very true. However, do you think this source is just trying to make Montero seem more valuable to other teams as possible trade bait?
Harry, thank you for agreeing with me. It's time to add Montero to our roster. We can DH him sometimes as we won't have Lance Berkman anymore and we can ***ign him a pitcher to be a "personal catcher" for. I'm a big fan of the "personal catcher." Cervelli stinks and is cool as the dickens, but Montero is better. Time for Montero to join the Yankees.

Lenny, Posada's and Cervelli's ineptitude isn't spin...it's fact. If Montero is ready give him his shot.

I don't want Cliff Lee. I want Montero!!!!!!!!
