I think now is a fitting time for an update on the division standings. Last night, the Yankees lost their third straight game. Couple that with the Rays’ three-game winning streak and you have a changing of the guard.
The Rays have an outright lead in the AL East for the first time since June 12 (left).
This change atop the standings comes just two games after the Yankees dropped two out of three to the Rays this past weekend.
The Yankees will try to avoid their longest losing streak of the year today at 1 p.m. against the Blue Jays and will host the Red Sox this weekend for four games. The Rays have two more games left with the Twins this week before heading up to Toronto for three against the Blue Jays.
