There are a few ex-Yankees who I will follow on this blog no matter where they wind up. Orlando ‘El Duque’ Hernandez is most certainly one of them.
The Nationals decided to take a chance on my man, who is listed at 40 years old, by signing him to a minor league deal. The article said he will ‘work his way up in the minor leagues before being promoted to the big leagues.’ That’s optimistic, as far as I’m concerned, but I hope it’s true!
My favorite memory of El Duque was when I attended the game he served up a homer to Alex Rodriguez on an eephus pitch, back when A-Rod was on the Rangers. I’m pretty sure it was this game, but it turns out A-Rod has quite the history with El Duque.
El Duque forever!
