Orioles third baseman Miguel Tejada underthrew first baseman Ty Wigginton in the seventh inning on Alex Rodriguez’s grounder, allowing two Yankees to score to break a 1-1 tie.
Javier Vazquez pitched seven innings to earn the win, Joba Chamberlain got the hold and Mariano Rivera closed the door for a 3-1 victory.
Best of all: Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer in the fifth off left-hander Brian Matusz.
Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 15 and now has seven straight multi-hit games.
Worst of all: Mark Teixeira fouled a pitch off his left foot in the first inning and left the game in the fourth. He’s considered day-to-day.
Coming up: Game 2 of the series is Wednesday. Same time, same place.
