Andy Pettitte led the way to a series-opening 4-3 victory over the Astros as interleague play started up again. It was Pettitte’s 200th career win as a Yankee and he also surpassed 3,000 innings for his career.
Best of all: Pettitte. He joins Phil Hughes at 8-1 this season by allowing two earned runs over 7 2/3 innings and striking out four.
Francisco Cervelli’s two-run single in the first inning proved to be the difference in this one. But where was that hit last night when he pinch hit?
Worst of all: Derek Jeter’s 28-game on-base streak ended with an 0-for-4 night.
Alex Rodriguez wasn’t available tonight with tendonitis in his hip flexor and is considered day-to-day.
Coming up: Saturday afternoon features Wandy Rodriguez vs. Javier Vazquez. Should be fun!
