The Orioles have the worst record in baseball still after sweeping the Red Sox this past weekend. However, I think that series was more of Boston slumping than it was Baltimore soaring.
The O’s took the first game against the Yankees last week, 5-4, but then lost the next two. The Yankees will have a little extra fire in them tonight when they face Jeremy Guthrie, the pitcher who’s plunked several Yankees this year due to “wildness.”
Pitching Matchups:
Date: | Orioles starters | Yankees starters |
Mon., 7:05 p.m. | Jeremy Guthrie (0-3, 4.70) | CC Sabathia (3-1, 3.12) |
Tues., 7:05 p.m. | Brian Matusz (2-1, 4.40) | A.J. Burnett (3-0, 2.43) |
Wed., 1:05 p.m. | D. Hernandez (0-3, 4.55) | A. Pettitte (3-0, 2.12) |
Players to Watch:
Orioles: Nick Markakis. He’s hitting .400 in his last 25 at-bats with two homers and six RBIs. He’s also a career .311/.371/.488 hitter against the Yankees.
Yankees: Brett Gardner. In his first game as the starting center fielder, he lived up to the challenge, belting his first homer and scoring a pair. Without Curtis Granderson, the Yankees will rely solely on Gardner in May. Can he continue his .342/.415 start for another month?
Prediction:
I think the Yankees will top yesterday’s offensive output tonight against Guthrie, Burnett will continue his dominance (and streaky self), and Pettitte will finally return to normalcy.
