The Yankees begin a 33-game spring training schedule today at 1:05 p.m. when they face the Pittsburgh Pirates at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Joe Girardi announced his plan to have Chad Gaudin toss the first pitch of the year, followed by Sergio Mitre, Alfredo Aceves, Jonathan Albaladejo, Wilkins Arias, Jason Hirsh, Royce Ring, Amaury Sanit and Zack Segovia. (That’s nine pitchers for nine innings if you’re counting at home.)
For the full plan of pitchers for the next few games, head over to LoHud.
Here’s the full lineup:
Jeter, SS
Granderson, CF
Teixeira, 1B
Rodriguez, 3B
Thames, DH
Hoffmann, RF
Gardner, LF
Cervelli, C
Pena, 2B
Also expected to play (via LoHud):
C Mike Rivera, 1B Nick Johnson, 2B Reegie Corona, SS Eduardo Nunez, 3B Brandon Laird, LF Colin Curtis, CF Greg Golson, RF David Winfree, DH Jon Weber.
The game is on YES, and I believe MLB Network too. I’m sadly missing the first pitch because of an important interview, but I’ll be watching most of the rest of the game and tweeting about it here.
