I’m out $100 because of Zack Greinke

Here’s the instant message from my friend that I’ve been dreading for the past four months.

GREINKE WINS.....THE GREINKE WINS!!!....BALL GAME OVER, WORLD SERIES OVER, CY YOUNG OVER...GREINKE WINS!!!!

Thanks, Pankey. And damn you, Zack Greinke.

Here is the link to my original post that publicized the bet. Here is the overwhelming evidence that I in fact lost the bet. And here is what I owe Mr. Pankey.

If you thought Greinke wasn't going to win you were crazy. Look at the guys stats, this was one of the best years a pitcher has had in recent history. He started the season red hot, 2 ER in 5 starts in April, and ended the season red hot, 2 ER in 5 starts in September. Wins mean nothing when you're dealing like that.
Sucks.
Nah, you aren't out $100 because of Zack Greinke...you're out $100 because you were silly enough to make a bet against him.

Just out of curiosity, since you never have said: Why did you actually make the bet? What was your reasoning?
Remember, I made this bet back in April.

My reasoning was I didn't think he could spend nearly half a season with a 0 ERA, and be a Cy Young candidate after leading the league in losses a few years ago.

Also, I was quite confident in CC Sabathia, Felix Hernandez and Roy Halladay to out-do him.

However, if I had a vote at the end of the season like the writers, I would have agreed with Greinke. Maybe if CC had reached 20 wins he would have gotten more votes, but Greinke ended the season with a couple of strong starts to clinch his ERA and WHIP titles. Otherwise, Felix Hernandez would have been pretty close to both and maybe he would have gotten some votes.
Yeah, I know you made it back in April - originally I thought you made it before the season began, because that's a bet that would have made sense!

But looking at him leading the league in losses isn't sound reasoning...While I will never say that wins and losses don't matter at all, they don't matter as much as you seem to think. The arguement has been out there all fall, so I won't repeat it. (Remember too that Justin Verlander led the league in losses last year.)

More importantly, and the thing that a lot of people simply don't see, is that the Zack Greinke out there now is NOT the same guy who led the league in losses in 2004. And no, this isn't a fluke either. Trust me (and your roommate).
