Toronto’s lack of class

Remember when I ticked off a bunch of Blue Jays fans over this article about A.J. Burnett? Well this should tick them off even more. Alfredo Aceves was almost hit by a ball thrown by a Toronto fan in last night’s game.

This is the lowest feat a fan can reach. Interfering with a foul ball so the player can’t catch it is bad. Tossing a full beer on an outfielder trying to catch a fly is awful. Attempting to hit — and possibly injure — a pitcher with a baseball is flat-out despicable.

Is anyone else having trouble sticking up for Toronto’s fans right now? Or is it just me?

I don't think you'll find a single Blue Jays fan that will defend a spectator throwing balls at the opposition.

But again, using the antics of one drunken yob as justification to smear a city of four million people is pretty stupid too.

Your comments are particularly rich for a blogger who roots for the Yankees. My god, one of your franchise highlights involves a 12 year old ball snagging a ball out of play to make for a home run. Your outfield bleachers are famous for throwing batteries in the opposing bullpen. So say "hi" to the kettle for us.

In a word, your analysis is myopic - just like it was when I commented in May.

Ok. Every team has their unruly fans, bla bla bla. But there are very few cases of fans doing things as crazy as throwing beer at a player or throwing a baseball. That's all I meant to say.

Via Marc Carig:
"The Rogers Centre has been known for rowdy fan behavior, and in the past, Yankees pitchers sitting in the bullpen have been targets of thrown debris." Just sayin.
