Jorgie juices two in Yankees victory

Five homers — two from Jorge Posada — propelled the Yankees (84-48) past the Orioles (54-79) in a 9-6 victory. The series victory was their eighth in their last nine.

Quick ‘Cap:
Nick Swisher’s two-run homer in the seventh broke the tie at 6, and the Yankees never looked back after that. Eric Hinske followed with a solo shot for good measure. After a sloppy start by A.J. Burnett, Damaso Marte, David Robertson, Phil Coke and Mariano Rivera shut down the Orioles over the last 4-2/3 innings.

Robinson Cano slapped the first homer for the Yanks in the second to give his team a 2-1 lead. Posada’s solo shot in the third made it 3-1, but Melvin Mora tied it up with a two-run single. Posada’s two-run job came in the fifth, but Luke Scott responded with a three-run homer. Full box score here.

Thoughts:
Glad for the win, of course. But mad about Burnett, really mad. He’s supposed to be the No. 2 starter. He needs to be.

Line of the Night:
Cano: 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR, BB. He’s up to .320 on the year.

Up Next:
The Yankees will look to sweep on Wednesday night with CC Sabathia (15-7, 3.56) on the hill. He will oppose Jason Berken (4-11, 6.33).
