The triple is the hardest part of the hitting cycle to complete. Melky Cabrera connected for a triple in his final at bat to become the 15th Yankee ever to accomplish the feat.
Melky has accustomed himself to big hits this season. Yesterday’s triple is just another addition to a long list of clutch plays this year.
He has three walk-off hits for the Yanks this season, and has also made countless crazy catches all over the outfield.
In fact, the tell-all stat is his batting average in late & close situations this season: .377. Forty percent of his RBI total this season has come in these clutch situations. This is a major contribution from a guy who bats at the bottom of the lineup.
Yankees fans should feel lucky to have a guy like Melky on the team. He does it all — and more importantly — he delivers.
