Yankees-Angels rest-of-the-series preview

The Yankees lost the first game of the series after blowing a lead last night, but are still 3-1 on this road trip and have won six of their last eight. After Joba Chamberlain’s messy outing, the Yankees still have a chance to win their last series before the All-Star break.

Head-to-Head:
The Yankees have beaten the Angels twice in three games so far, and the last game of the four-game series was postponed.

Pitching Matchups:

Date Yankees starters Angels starters
Saturday Andy Pettitte (8-4, 4.53) Jered Weaver (9-3, 3.15)
Sunday CC Sabathia (8-5, 3.70) John Lackey (3-4, 5.18)
Today’s matchup should be a good one. Pettitte was bad in his last start but was looking good earlier. Weaver is starting to come into his own and should be a tough test.

Sunday’s starters weigh in at a combined 535 pounds, and can really throw hard. Hopefully Angel Stadium can support the two gargantuans colliding.

Today’s Lineups:
Yankees Angels
Derek Jeter SS Chone Figgins DH
Johnny Damon LF Erick Aybar SS
Mark Teixeira 1B Bobby Abreu RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B Mike Napoli C
Hideki Matsui DH Kendry Morales 1B
Jorge Posada C Gary Matthews Jr. CF
Robinson Cano 2B Howard Kendrick 2B
Eric Hinske RF Brandon Wood 3B
Brett Gardner CF Robb Quinlan LF
I like the Yanks lineup today. I get to watch Hinske’s second game, and I like Matsui hitting fifth, as he has been hitting the ball very well recently.

My Outlook:
Today’s matchup will definitely be the toughest of the two. If the Yanks can get some run support for Pettitte, they have a chance to take the series.
