Alfredo Aceves was told he will start on Thursday after throwing a bullpen session before tonight’s game, according to PeteAbe. Aceves beat out Sergio Mitre and possibly Kei Igawa for Chien-Ming Wang’s turn in the rotation.
I thought the move was a no-brainer after Ace’s economical outing against the Blue Jays. He started some games for the Yankees down the stretch last season, and was very impressive. Look at his first four starts of his career:
Opponent | Dec. | IP | H | ER | BB | K |
Rays | L | 5 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 4 |
Angels | W | 7 | 5 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
White Sox | W | 6 | 5 | 2 | 1 | 3 |
Orioles | W | 6 | 5 | 0 | 3 | 3 |
There is no word on who will be making Wang’s next scheduled start, but I believe Aceves gets it as long as all goes well against the Twins on Thursday.
