The first game of the Rays-Yankees series has been postponed, even though it’s b-e-a-utiful here in Hanover, NH.
The only change in the rotation is Andy Pettitte and A.J. Burnett switching places. Everyone else moves over a day, starting with CC Sabathia pitching Saturday’s day-game. After the Yanks finish with the Rays, they’ll visit the Red Sox at Fenway for a three-game set starting Tuesday. Here’s what the pitching matchups look like, barring anymore rainouts:
vs. Rays | Rays Starters | Yankees Starters |
Saturday | David Price (1-0, 3.00) | CC Sabathia (5-3, 3.46) |
Sunday | A. Sonnanstine (4-5, 7.07) | J. Chamberlain (3-1, 3.71) |
Monday | Jeff Niemann (5-4, 3.77) | Andy Pettitte (5-2, 4.33) |
@ Red Sox | Yankees Starters | Red Sox Starters |
Tuesday | A.J. Burnett | Josh Beckett |
Wednesday | Chien-Ming Wang | Tim Wakefield |
Thursday | CC Sabathia | Brad Penny |
Update: The Rays moved Matt Garza out of Sunday's matchup, and will not pitch at all in the series. This is good news for Yankees fans.
A makeup date is yet to be announced, but it will not be a doubleheader this weekend. WFAN’s Sweeny Murti predicts it will be sometime on September.
